Periodontal Treatments

Non-surgical periodontal therapy

Non-surgical periodontal therapy is a deep cleaning treatment used to stop gum disease and prevent it from getting worse. It focuses on cleaning below the gumline where a regular cleaning can’t reach.

Think of it as giving your gums and the roots of your teeth a thorough reset so they can heal. NSPT helps stop the disease early and protect your teeth long-term.

Depigmentation of gums

Gum depigmentation is a simple cosmetic procedure that lightens dark spots or patches on the gums. These darker areas are usually harmless and caused by natural melanin, similar to freckles on the skin. The treatment gently removes the top layer of pigmented tissue so the gums heal with a lighter, more even color. It’s quick, safe, and done with minimal discomfort, and most people return to normal activities right away.

Flap surgery

Flap surgery is a gum procedure used to treat advanced gum disease. The dentist gently lifts the gums to clean out the deep buildup of bacteria and tartar that can’t be reached with regular cleanings. Once the area is thoroughly cleaned and the bone is checked or smoothed if needed, the gums are placed back and stitched so they can heal in a healthier position. This helps reduce pocket depths, stop infection, and protect your teeth from further damage.

Crown lengthening procedure

Crown lengthening is a gum procedure that exposes more of a tooth by reshaping the gum and sometimes a small amount of bone around it. This is done when a tooth doesn’t have enough visible structure for a crown or filling to hold onto, or to improve a “gummy smile.” By gently lowering the gumline, the dentist creates more room to properly restore the tooth and makes cleaning easier, while keeping everything healthy and stable.

Mucogingival / soft tissue grafting/root coverage

Gum recession happens when the gum tissue pulls away from the teeth, exposing the roots and making teeth look longer or feel sensitive. Treatment focuses on stopping the recession and protecting the roots. In many cases, we use a gentle procedure called a soft-tissue graft, where healthy tissue—either from your own mouth or a donor source—is placed over the exposed root to rebuild the gumline. This helps cover the sensitive area, prevent further recession, reduce the risk of decay, and improve the smile’s appearance. For milder cases, we may use non-surgical options like deep cleaning, special desensitizing treatments, or modifying brushing habits. The goal is to restore healthier, stronger gums so your teeth stay protected and comfortable long-term.

Endo-Perio lesions

An endo-perio lesion is a problem where an infection in the tooth and an infection in the gums happen at the same time and start to affect each other. This means bacteria from inside the tooth can spread to the gums, or gum disease can spread down to the root of the tooth, causing pain, swelling, or looseness. Because the tooth and gums are connected, a problem in one area can spread to the other. As both areas are involved, treatment usually focuses on cleaning and disinfecting the inside of the tooth (a root canal) as well as treating the gum infection so the area can heal properly and the tooth can be saved whenever possible.

Bone grafting / ridge preservation

When a tooth is removed, the bone in that area naturally begins to resorb. This can make it difficult to place implants later and may affect the shape of your smile. Bone grafting or ridge preservation is a procedure done right after tooth removal to protect and rebuild this area. Dentist gently fills the socket with a safe, biocompatible bone material that encourages your body to grow new bone. A small membrane or covering may be placed to protect it while it heals. This helps maintain the natural shape of your jaw, keeps neighbouring teeth stable, and improves your options for future treatments like implants.

Furcation management

Furcation management is a dental procedure used when gum disease affects the area where the roots of a back tooth split—called the furcation. When this area becomes infected, it creates a hidden space that traps bacteria and weakens the tooth’s support. Furcation management focuses on carefully cleaning and treating this space so the infection can be controlled and the tooth can stay healthy for as long as possible. Depending on how severe the problem is, treatment may include deep cleaning, smoothing the roots, placing bone graft material, or adjusting the gum tissue to make the area easier to clean at home. The goal is to stop the disease from spreading, reduce pocket depth, and help you keep your natural tooth comfortably and safely.

Increasing width of keratinised gum

Sometimes the band of firmer, protective gum tissue around a tooth is too thin or too narrow. This can make the area harder to clean and more likely to become irritated or recede over time. The procedure to increase the width of keratinised gum simply adds a bit of sturdy, healthy tissue to strengthen and thicken this zone. This is usually done by placing a small piece of gum tissue—or a special graft material—onto the area that needs support. As it heals, the tissue blends in and forms a stronger, more durable gum layer. This helps protect the teeth, makes brushing more comfortable, and reduces the risk of future gum problems.

Treatment of Peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis

Peri-implant mucositis and peri-implantitis are gum infections that develop around dental implants when bacteria build up under the gums. Peri-implant mucositis is the early, reversible stage where the gums around the implant become red, swollen, or bleed. Peri-implantitis is a more advanced stage where the infection begins to damage the bone supporting the implant. Treatment focuses on stopping the infection and protecting the implant: we gently clean around the implant, remove bacteria from under the gums, and smooth the implant surface so the tissue can heal. In more advanced cases, special medications, lasers, or bone-regenerating procedures may be used to rebuild lost support. With timely care and good oral hygiene, most patients can stabilize the condition and maintain a healthy, long-lasting implant.

Aesthetic smile design

Aesthetic smile design in periodontics focuses on creating a balanced, healthy, and naturally beautiful smile by improving the shape, height, and appearance of your gums. Sometimes the gums may look uneven, too low, too high, or may show too much when you smile. With gentle periodontal treatments, we can reshape the gumline, correct asymmetries, and enhance how your teeth and gums work together. The goal is not only to improve the look of your smile but also to support long-term gum health, giving you a confident, harmonious, and healthy smile you can feel proud of.

Treatment of black triangles

Black triangles are the small gaps that appear between teeth near the gums, often caused by gum recession, bone loss, or natural tooth shape. Treatment focuses on gently closing these spaces to improve both appearance and health. Depending on your needs, the dentist may reshape the teeth, place tooth-coloured bonding to fill the gaps, adjust the gums with minor periodontal procedures, or use orthodontic movement to bring the teeth closer together. These treatments help create a fuller, more even smile while also reducing food trapping and making the gums easier to keep clean.
